If you are old enough to remember the 1970's, you may
remember SNL's Garret Morris saying, "baseball has been berry bery good
to me". What can I say - I've always loved Math, and it's been "berry
berry good to me". I was drafted back in
the day before PCs, graphing calculators and such. Due to a high
grade on an aptitude test I was able to join the Air Force and spent my
military days using Geometry and Trigonometry to calculate bomb
trajectories. It was a good life.
When I graduated college with a degree in Math, the
mainframe computer field was expanding greatly and programmers were in
short supply. NYC's utility company, Con Edison, decided that
instead of computing in the job market for experienced programmers they
would "grow their own". They set up a traing program and hired
college graduates with good "analytical skills". People with Math
degrees were high on their list. I was hired and ended up having a
great 25 year career in technology.
I am currently a licensed stock broker and would
never be able to understand the complex world of stock and option
trading without an excellent background in Math.
Of course the best use of my Math degree is the
time I spend in the classroom with teenagers. I've enjoyed a short
career as a regualr classroom teacher and currently am a substitute
teacher.

On a more personal note, I was raised in the
Astoria section of New York City, the second of 5 brothers. I've
lived in New York, Kentucky, New Jersey and of course, Texas.
My wife is a Speech Pathologist in a local school
system. We have a son who is a junior at Rutgers University
studying Electrical Engineering.
